As I was reading your blogpost I found myself nodding in agreement. As an educator and mother, I am amazed at how my 4-year old indulges in imaginative play fights with demons and "bad peoples". I have to be vigilant and cognizant of what he is internalises from his environment and steer away his imaginative play so that it is "boy-like" and yet not violent. My husband and I decided that we are going to take charge of this need of his and so in the evening I do a fair bit of gymnastics and goofing around in the garb of dance and before bedtime, my husband and he get into make believe wars (with no weapons)- an amalgamation of hide, attack bodily and camouflage.

Another thing that baffles me is why do well-meaning people think that guns are the best gifts that they can get for boys.

Good post....your lucid writing reflects your beliefs and principles!

I have recently brought the My Desi Guru DVDs for my friend's son's birthday who has recently started school and beginning to loose interest in speaking his native language which is Hindi. These products have helped him to regain his interest and the characters on screen really encourage him to follow. A fantastic product for kids and a great gift idea. I truly recommended.

Riya, thanks for sharing this information, and for linking to my site.

I like your tongue-in-cheek, but seriously, I've raised 3 children with this approach and the only time they have ever complained about being bored is when they are very VERY tired, too tired to think up anything to do. I swear that as infants they NEVER got bored. (Tired and overstimulated, yes!)

Thank you for introducing me to your blog. It's terrific!
